Satu Tuomisto’s new choreography Vimmaa (Frenzy) has been chosen to showcase at Springdance festival

A new production by a contemporary dance choreographer Satu Tuomisto has been chosen to showcase at the internationally established contemporary dance and performance art festival Springdance in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Vimmaa will be premiered in Finland in Oulu City Theatre on September 2012. Vimmaa is produced by JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre, Oulu City Theatre and Satu Tuomisto.

Satu Tuomisto stretches the limits of contemporary dance by combining different forms of music, motion, expression and arts in order to provide the audience with emotional and kinetic experiences. Originally from Helsinki, Tuomisto graduated from London Middlesex University in 2000 and was recently nominated as the Artistic Director of JoJo Oulu Dance Centre. The latest productions include Lähellä (Close) for the Finnish National Ballet premiered in the Finnish National Opera on 9 September 2011 (music by Jukka Poika and Selecta Andor) and Keittiönpöydällä (On The Kitchen Table) with Mariska and Pahat Sudet Orchestra (produced by Zodiak in 2011).

The 28e edition of Springdance will take place in Utrecht from April 19 till 29. This year the festival focuses on dance and the visual arts. The festival presents fresh new and influential performances by innovative choreographers and young talents from various countries. The opening show will be The Rodin Project by Russell Maliphant (UK), inspired by the legendary French sculptor Rodin. Satu Tuomisto will visit Springdance as part of Europe in Motion in partnership with Dance4.
